Community Activities at Zion
Zion's current Church
Council Mission is to "Improve Communications within our
Community". Our Council has taken this mission very seriously and has
made several attempts this year to reach out to the community to increase our
visibility and to give back to our community. Below is a list of recent
events Zion has been involved with throughout 2003. November
2003: Craft Bazaar with United Church and the Elks club.
Our wonderful volunteers had met for many months each week to create
exceptional crafts for this event. Some of these unsold crafts are still
on display and available for sale through Christmas for party presents or
friendship gifts. This event was our first ever craft bazaar
which yielded an incredible response on a very cold and snowy day in
November. 10% of our funds will be sent to our local food bank
"Loaves and Fishes" located on Miner Street, downtown Idaho
Springs.

Thanks Phil, Kim, Devin, Peggy, Lori and Judy for your help that
day. A special THANK YOU to all of you who donated your crafts and
time for this special event. |
Lutherans KNOW HOW TO COOK! |

October 31, 2003: Trick or Treat at Zion
Halloween at Zion was a special time this year. We offered "Testimints"
(mints packaged with scriptures) and pencils with Zion Lutheran Church stamped
on each along with many other treats for those who stopped by. We had
over 80 children stop by the church during this wonderful event this
year. Thanks to those volunteers who cooked soup and made plenty of hot
chocolate and coffee for those parents who endured the 12 degree temperatures!
July 2003: Rainbow Trail Bible School
Each summer Zion participates in a community Bible School camp typically
held at United Church for all churches in the community and run by Rainbow
Trail Day Camp. This wonderful ecumenical event in Idaho Springs brings
many parents and children of different faiths together for worship all week
long. The week is wrapped up with a special program in which the
children share what they have learned each year with their
parents.
July 4th, 2003: Fireworks and Treats on Independence
Day.
Special music could be heard from Karen Fellbaum playing her saxophone
during this cookout at Zion. Special Guitar music and an incredible
array of food was available to all those who stopped by the church during this
special day.
